Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb
"Always glad to get the win. It's nice to get that first one. I really credit Sac State playing hard. I watched them on film, and even when they are losing, they are always playing hard. Really glad we got the win. It wasn't our best basketball. What we are talking about with our team is defining what Cal basketball is and playing that way no matter what the other team is doing. Sticking to what we do well. I thought we did that in spurts, but not well enough. I think this team needs to realize how good they can be and what it takes to get to that point. I think when we really commit to that, we can do some good things. I think today is one where we will say, 'A Picaso, it was not.'"
"We were sloppy. We feel like we should be a top-25 caliber team. Step up and knock down free throws. We need to knock down outside shots. We had three post players combine to miss three shots. When that happens, get the ball inside. Go inside out. Our sense of rhythm wasn't there. That was because we didn't take control. I credit Sac State because they make the game a little bit ugly in terms of how they play with the pressure. I don't feel like we did enough things on offense that were rhythmic for us. And I think we gave up too many open looks on the other end. It just wasn't as good as we want to be."
"I thought we were too tentative against the press early. Sac State has a couple of different presses and that is what they do, press you 100% of the time. I felt there were times when we looked good breaking the press and there were times we didn't."
"I think Eliza Pierre came off the bench and did a really, really good job helping us handle that pressure."
"I think this post group could be scary good, because we are deep and we can go with four of them. Talia can play fresher than she has been able to in the past two years, because she can get her wind and then come back in. I think Justine and Reshanda buying into that. We are going to get in, coming off the bench, let's bring another level of intensity. I thought their mentality coming out was phenomenal."
"I think we have really talented players who are athletic and versatile. We want to put them in spots where they can play in rhythm. And they can play hard and fast out of the confines of what we are asking them to do. So it is a little bit of structure, and a little bit of freedom within that. Being able to play fast and aggressive and tough within the framework of some coaching points that will help them excel. We want to pressure a little bit, be aggressive, and be disruptive."

On having talented freshmen in the post group
"It is cool and exciting. I am really glad we have that kind of set up. And they are all really good. When we do post breakdowns, our coach, DP [Daron Park], who is an amazing post coach, really makes sure they are better. So that really helps. Me and Reshanda were really on ourselves last game. We combined for maybe three rebounds. So I think that was a point of emphasis for us both today. That is what you can do when you have a post group that is really tight. We can make each other better."
