CORVALLIS, Ore. - The first goal of Michael Munoz's season was a timely one, as the senior scored the gamewinner in California's 3-1 win over Oregon State on Sunday. The Golden Bears also got goals from forwards Luis Fuentes and John Fitzpatrick and improved their record to 7-5-1 (2-3-0 in the Pac-12). Oregon State fell to 6-5-1 (1-3-1 Pac-12).
After Emery Welshman gave the host 1-0 lead at 10:21, Fuentes took a pass from sophomore midfielder Seth Casiple and scored from the right side of the box at 14:42 to tie the match at 1-1. It was the junior's second goal as a Bear.
At 19:05, Munoz scored from just outside the six-yard box to put the Bears ahead, 2-1.
Cal took the 2-1 lead into halftime. The teams were tied on shots, 8-8, though OSU had an 8-0 lead in corner kicks after 45 minutes.
In the second half, Cal outshot the Beavers, 6-3, and had a 2-1 advantage in corners.
At 47:13, Fitzpatrick knocked in a cross by senior midfielder Tony Salciccia for the senior's second goal of the year.
Cal hosts Washington on Friday, Oct. 19, and Oregon State on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Edwards Stadium with just five games left in the regular season. Friday's match will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
