BERKELEY - Sarah Huarte of Shingle Springs, Calif., has signed a letter of intent to play golf at Cal beginning with the 2000-2001 academic school year, Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel announced today.

"I'm very excited to have Sarah join our program," said McDaniel. "She is one of the most talented young golfers in the state and will help Cal continue to improve on the national scene."

Huarte won the California State High School Tournament Nov. 8, at Elkhorn Golf Course in Lodi. Over the summer, she won five tournaments throughout the state, including the California State Junior Tournament in Monterey and the California State Fair Junior Championship.

Huarte is a senior on the golf team at St. Francis High School in Sacramento, where current Golden Bear golfers Elisa Echeverria, Amber Reilly and Kelly Thomas graduated from.
