SHANGHAI, China - California junior All-American Jonas Tilly won the silver medal as part of Sweden's second-place 4x100-meter relay final at the FINA Short Course World Championships on Wednesday at Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai Qi Zhong Forest Sports City to the southwest of Shanghai. Sweden swam a 3:11.63 to finish behind gold-medalist Italy, which swam a 3:10.74.
Former Golden Bears All-American Rolandas Gimbutis also swam in the final of the 4x100 relay, leading off Lithuania's eighth-place team (3:16.38).
On day two of the championships on Thursday, former Bears All-American Alex Lim, swimming for Malaysia, took eighth place in the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 52.82. Australia's Matthew Welsh won the race (51.09).
Also, former Bears All-American Duje Draganja, swimming for Croatia, swam the third-best time (21.72) in the 50-meter freestyle semifinals. Gimbutis was 12th overall (22.14) in the 50 free semis.
Cal co-head coach Mike Bottom is an assistant coach for the U.S. men's team at the World Championships, which end on April 9.
