(BERKELEY) - Preseason All-American senior linebacker Mychal Kendricks is scheduled to be a guest on KNBR 680 during the "Murph & Mac" show with hosts Brian Murphy and Paul McCaffrey on Monday, August 29. The segment featuring Kendricks is scheduled to begin at 8:35 a.m. PT. Fans can listen live at KNBR.com.
A native of Fresno and graduate of Hoover High School just down the road from Fresno State, Kendricks and his Cal teammates will face his hometown Bulldogs in the season-opening TicketCity Battle by the Bay at San Francisco's Candlestick Park this Saturday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. PT.
Single-game tickets for the contest are on sale now and can be purchased online at CalBears.com, or by calling the Cal Athletic Ticket Office at (800) GO BEARS. The neutral-site season opener for both teams is not part of the 2011 Cal football season-ticket package.
Kendricks, who appeared on the same stage as Murphy earlier this month at the 2011 Bay Area College Football Media Day hosted by the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco, received his preseason All-American nod as an honorable mention choice of GoDaddy.com. He is on watch lists for prestigious national honors, including the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Butkus Award, College Football Performance Awards Linebacker Trophy, Lott IMPACT Trophy and the Rotary Lombardi Award. He is also a candidate for the Jack Lambert Trophy.
Kendricks has played in all 38 games possible at Cal from 2008-10 with 18 career starts, all in the last two seasons. His 38 games played are tied for the most by any active Cal player heading into the 2011 campaign that he will begin as the Golden Bears' active career leader in tackles (152), tackles for loss (22.0, -85 yards), sacks (10.5, -69 yards), fumble recoveries (5) and blocked kicks (1).
Last season, Kendricks earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors as one of the top big-play players in the league, leading Cal and ranking among the conference and national leaders with 8.5 sacks (0.71 per game, No. 2 Pac-10, No. 26-T NCAA) for -57 yards and 15.0 tackles for loss (1.25 per game, No. 4 Pac-10, No. 28-T NCAA) for -69 yards. He was also tied for first in the Pac-10 with three fumble recoveries (0.25 per game), while his 66 tackles was fourth on the team and his average of 5.5 stops per game ranked him No. 31 in the Pac-10.
Tickets are also on sale for Cal's five home games this season at San Francisco's AT&T Park. Cal will host Pac-12 opponents USC (Thu., Oct. 13), Utah (Sat., Oct. 22), Washington State (Sat., Nov. 5) and Oregon State (Sat., Nov. 12) at the venue after playing a non-conference contest against Presbyterian in its home opener on Sat., Sept. 17.
After playing the last 88 seasons and every home game at Memorial Stadium since the facility opened for the 1923 Big Game, Cal will host its home games outside of Berkeley for the first time in 2011 while Memorial Stadium undergoes an extensive renovation and retrofit. For updates on the progress of the renovation and retrofit of Memorial Stadium as well as the Memorial Stadium webcam, visit stadium.berkeley.edu.
