2011 Cal Football: Information Guide
(BERKELEY) - Keenan Allen was one of 19 players added Friday to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award honoring the nation's top college receiver. Allen, who joins teammate Marvin Jones on the watch list, paces Cal in both receptions (20) and receiving yards (301) through the team's first three games. Allen is third in the Pac-12 and tied for 25th nationally with an average of 6.67 receptions per game. He is also fifth in the conference and 24th nationally with an average of 100.33 yards per game.
Jones has a team-leading three touchdown receptions and a 17.4 yards per catch average that is the best of all the team's wide receivers, with Allen second on the club in both categories posting two touchdown grabs and an average of 15.1 yards per catch. Jones, who is close behind Allen with17 catches for 296 yards, is sixth in the conference and 25th nationally with 98.67 receiving yards per game, as well as eighth in the league and tied for 40th nationally 5.67 catches per contest.
Appearing on the Watch List is not a requirement for a player to be awarded the Biletnikoff Award. Receivers are eligible for the award until the field is narrowed to three finalists on November 21, 2011.
The Biletnikoff Selection Committee will send out electronic ballots to voters. The first vote will determine the 10 semifinalists and will be announced on November 14. The second vote will determine the top three finalists and will be announced on November 21, and the last vote to determine the recipient will take place on December 1. All Voters for the Biletnikoff Award consist of sportswriters who cover college football on a national, regional, or conference level, past winners of the Biletnikoff Award, and distinguished receivers of the past. No members of the Biletnikoff Selection Committee or Trustees of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club can vote.
The recipient of the 2011 Biletnikoff Award will be announced live on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 8. The Biletnikoff Award Presentation Banquet will be held at the University Center Club at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, on February 11, 2012.
The award is named for Fred Biletnikoff, the Florida State All-America receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer. The award has been given out for the past 16 years. Cal (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12) completed the non-conference portion of its 2011 regular-season schedule unbeaten with a victory over Presbyterian last Saturday at San Francisco's AT&T Park. The Bears open a nine-game Pac-12 slate at Washington (2-1, 0-0 Pac-12) this Saturday, Sept. 24 (12:30 p.m. PT). The contest will be telecast on a national basis by Fox Sports Net and will be shown locally on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
The Cal commercial radio broadcast of the contest can be heard on the IMG College Sports Radio Network, with KGO 810 AM in San Francisco serving as the flagship station. The KGO version of the broadcast is also available live online at CalBears.com. KALX 90.7 FM offers fans the student radio broadcast.
