Women's Golf Improves to 8th at Spartan Invitational

MONTEREY, Calif. - No. 31 California showed improvement during round two of three of the Spartan Invitational, moving from 10th place to eighth place (664) Tuesday with a second round score of 323. Tulsa continues to lead the 11-team field with a score of 612 after matching its first-round team score of 306. The Hurricanes nearest competitor is Arizona State, 10 strokes behind at 622, followed by host San Jose State and Oklahoma State tied for third at 639.

Junior Nicole Bolter carded a Bear-best tournament mark of 75 during the second round, placing her tied for 11th (158) as Cal's top golfer. Bolter stood in 22nd-place after the first round. The rest of Cal's line-up, including individual golfer Heather Bruno posted second-round scores in the 80s.

Tulsa's Niina Laitinen continues to lead the tournament at 147 despite following up her tournament-best round of 69 yesterday with a 78 today. None of the 59 players in the field matched or broke par during the second round. San Jose State's Georgina Simpson is in second at 150, followed by four golfers tied for third.

The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes tomorrow at Laguna Seca Golf Course.
