TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 7 California softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but No. 3 Arizona took home the 5-3 win in Tucson, Ariz., Friday night. The Golden Bears fell to 40-11 overall and 8-8 in the Pac-10, while the Wildcats improved to 38-9 and 9-6.
The Bears tallied six hits in the loss, four of which came in the seventh inning. Sophomore Erika Racklin, pinch-running for senior Haley Woods, scored on an RBI single from sophomore Julie Meyer. Senior Lindsay James later drove in freshman Carly Winger and Meyer on a single to left center.
Senior Kristina Thorson started the game and threw three shutout innings, in which she gave up just two hits and struck out three. Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz entered the game in the fourth inning and gave up five runs on four hits. Arizona scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Bears travel to Tempe, Ariz., to take on Arizona State Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m.
