BERKELEY - The No. 5 Cal women's water polo team returned to the pool with a vengeance Saturday while taking on Harvard at Spieker Aquatics Complex. After a heartbreaking loss to Arizona State last week, the Bears came back for a victory over the Crimson, dominating the game 22-9.
The Bears (13-5) made a statement early on with eight goals in the first quarter, three of which were scored by senior All-American Emily Csikos. Csikos scored five goals overall and now has 210 in her career, putting her only two behind Colette Glinkowski for No. 1 on Cal's all-time list.
Freshman goalie Kathleen Menz anchored the Cal defense with two saves in the first quarter and two more in the second. She finished with five overall. Savanna Smith closed the game in the fourth quarter with four saves, as the Crimson's attack got stronger during the final minutes of play.
The second half started off with a bang when Cal scored eight more goals in the third quarter as Kelly McKee, Young, Sierra Smiley, and Missy Hale led the attack. By the end of the third quarter, Cal was up 19-4.
The Bears' next game will be at San Jose State on April 6 at 12:00 p.m. PT.
