BERKELEY - Contrary to recent newspaper reports, Cal men's basketball coach Ben Braun confirmed he is not a candidate for the position at the University of Minnesota.

When reached for comment Saturday morning about his being allegedly contacted by Minnesota regarding its head men's basketball coaching position, Braun said: "I am not and have never been a candidate for the Minnesota job. I have not had any contact with officials from the University of Minnesota. Any reports to the contrary are untrue."

Braun recently completed his third season with the Golden Bears. After leading Cal to the Sweet 16 of the 1997 NCAA Tournament, he guided the team to the NIT championship this past March. During his tenure with the Bears, Braun has compiled a 57-35 record.
