Malibu, CA - The No. 5 ranked California women's tennis team pulled off a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind victory over No 3 Wake Forest in the quarterfinal match of the NCAA Championships Friday evening in Malibu, CA.

The Bears now advance to a semi-final match against top-ranked Stanford on Saturday. The Bears now have a 21-6 record, while Wake Forest finished the season with a 24-3 mark.

The Bears appeared in dire straits as Wake Forest jumped out to a 4-2 advantage in singles, but the Bears season-long doubles strength proved the difference in the final analysis.

In singles, No. 6 ranked Adria Engel of the Deamon Decons rallied from a 6-2, 2-0 deficit to Cal's Anita Kurimay (No. 18 nationally) to eventually win 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Cal posted wins at No. 2 (Amy Jensen) and No. 4 (Karoline Bergman) to keep the match alive going into doubles.

Cal dominated doubles, winning all three matches, with a pair of relatively easy victories at the first two doubles spots coupled with a dramatic 8-6 victory to clinch the 5-4 win for the Golden Bears.
