Sept. 21, 2005
BERKELEY - Senior forward Calen Carr has been named to Soccer America's Team of the Week for Sept. 12-18.
Carr scored both of Cal's game-winning goals last weekend to move the Bears to 5-0-1. Against San Francisco Sept. 16, Carr put the No. 6 Bears on the board when he scored in the 11th minute. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Jacobson and junior defender Andrew Felder assisted on the play when they crossed the ball to Carr, who shot from inside the penalty box and found the open net.
Twenty minutes later Carr was once again active on offense, scoring Cal's second goal-the game-winner-in the 32nd minute. Sophomore midfielder Luke Sassano dribbled down the right side of the field and crossed the ball to Carr, who beat San Francisco goalkeeper Geremy Uhl to the net. The goal was his third of the season. Cal defeated the Dons, 2-1.
In Sunday afternoon's match up against No. 7 Santa Clara, both teams went scoreless in the first half and most of the second until Carr came up big for the Bears at the end of the game. In the 86th minute, Sassano threw the ball into play. Carr was positioned in front of the goal and headed the ball into the net for his third game-winning goal of the season. Cal shut out the Broncos, 1-0.
Carr currently leads the Bears with four goals for the season, three of them game-winners. The Berkeley native also paces the team in shots taken, with 26 for the season.
