Aug. 25, 2011

As a result of a number of unfortunate incidents that occurred during the recent San Francisco 49ers-Oakland Raiders preseason game, several new safety measures will be instituted at Candlestick Park to help ensure that the stadium remains a safe environment to enjoy and watch football. These new steps will be in place for the Sept. 3 Cal vs. Fresno State game at the stadium.

  • Additional security staff will be stationed inside the stadium and parking lots.
  • Additional SFPD squad cars will be stationed in parking lots.
  • Uniformed and plain-clothed police will patrol restrooms throughout the stadium.
  • Tailgating will be limited to four hours prior to kickoff. Once the game begins, security will conduct a sweep of the lots, and remaining fans will be asked to either enter the stadium or vacate the premises.
  • Smoking will not be allowed through the stadium.
  • A no re-entry policy will be in effect.
  • Additional lighting towers will be stationed in the parking lots.

The Battle by the Bay between Cal and Fresno State kicks off at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. Tickets are available through or by calling (800) G0 BEARS. Fans should note that the neutral-site season opener for both teams is not part of the Bears' season-ticket package.
