Omaha, Neb. - With a second-place finish in the women's 50-meter freestyle, former Golden Bear Jessica Hardy should add this event to her Olympic resume in the final day of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Time Trials at the Qwest Center on Sunday evening.
According to USA Swimming, only the top four swimmers in the men's and women's 100m and 200m free, along with the winners of all the other events, automatically qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team.
The second-place finishers in all the other events - plus the fifth and sixth-place finishers in the men's and women's 100m and 200m free - may be named to the team later in the week, pending swimmers qualifying in multiple events.
Hardy finished the 50 with a time of 24.82, .57 seconds behind Dara Torres, who set an American record with a time of 24.25.
Hardy already earned automatic qualification to the U.S. Olympic Team in the 100-meter breast and 4x100m free relay in earlier Trials action.
