BERKELEY - Pia Halbig was the top individual finisher (medalist) at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., making the senior golfer the California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.
Halbig, who finished at 13 under par, set a Cal record for best score in a 54 hole (three-round, the collegiate norm) tournament, beating the old record by five strokes. She also tied the tournament record with her 13-under. Halbig also tied a Cal record for a low round in competition with her second round 5-under 67.
Halbig beat out 92 of the best golfers in the country to earn the first tournament victory of her collegiate career. The field for the tournament included four of the top-five ranked teams in the country. Of the 17 teams competing, only one team was ranked outside of the top-30.
