BERKELEY, CALIF. - The University of California men's swimming program will be hosting its annual three-day Cal Invitational this Saturday, Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 21, at Spieker Aquatics Complex on the Cal campus. The all-comers meet, which will not feature any Cal swimmers, gives local male and female athletes an opportunity to compete at the home pool of the Golden Bears' swimming and diving teams.
Participants may enter the Cal Invitational either on deck or online. For online entries, send a HY-TEK file by noon on Friday, Jan. 18 to firstname.lastname@example.org, or bring a flash drive to the meet on Saturday. The entry fee is $3.00 per event. The 2007-08 Cal men's swimming and diving team, lead by first-year coach David Durden, is currently 2-0 in dual meet competition and is ranked 11th in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll. The Bears will next compete against No. 3-ranked Arizona on Friday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m., and against Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 12 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Cal men have just returned from a holiday trip to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the Bears had a non-scoring joint training session with No. 4-ranked University of Michigan on Jan. 2.
