FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - California sophomore Javier Rivas placed eighth and freshman teammate Sam Helvie was ninth on the one-meter springboard at the Pac-10 Men's and Women's Diving Championships on Friday afternoon at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatics Center. Arizona State senior All-American Joona Puhakka won his fourth straight Pac-10 one-meter crown, adding to the three-meter title he won yesterday.
Rivas finished last with 271.85 points in the eight-man final, while Puhakka won with a score of 417.00 points. Last year's Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, Rivas edged Helvie (261.10) for the last spot in the final. Cal sophomore Mark Wes scored 233.85 in the preliminaries, but he competed on an exhibition basis.
