No. 13 Oregon State Sweeps Pair from No. 14 Cal in Softball
Oregon State's Tarrah Beyster pitched a one-hitter in the first game and homered and pickup up the second in game two, leading the 13th-ranked Beavers to a pair of 1-0 victories over No. 14 California Monday on Levine-Fricke Field.
OSU improved to 33-12 overall and 6-4 in the Pac-10, while Cal fell to 31-12 and 2-7.
The first game was a scoreless battle between the teams' aces -- Beyster and Cal freshman Jocelyn Forest - until OSU pushed across a run in the top of the 11th inning. With Jenni Jodoin starting on second base under the international tie-breaker rule, Heather Chinn sacrificed her to third. Then with two outs, Shawna Feldt came through with a single to score Jodoin with the game's only run.
Forest, who dropped to 14-4 on the year, allowed six hits and struck out nine. The Bears lone hit was an infield single by Pauline Dueas in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Beyster broke a 0-0 tie when she led off the sixth inning with a home run over the center field fence. Cal threatened in the bottom of the sixth when a double by Maiko Bristow and a single by Lisa Iancin put runners on second and third for the Bears. But Beyster came on to relieve Crystal Draper to end the inning. She then retired the side in order in the seventh for her fifth save.
Cal sophomore Nicole DiSalvio scattered eight hits the loss.
