BERKELEY, Calif. - Dominik Meichtry won both distance events and Milorad Cavic won the 100-yard freestyle as third-ranked California (3-0) beat visiting Pacific, 158-98, on Friday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Complex in the Golden Bears' first home dual meet of the season.

Meichtry, a sophomore All-American for the Bears, won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 9:19.95 and later won the 500 free in 4:31.59. For Cavic, a senior teammate and a fellow All-American, his win in the 100 free (44.79) was his first individual victory this season.

Three Bears - senior Henrique Barbosa, sophomore Jernej Godec and sophomore William Copeland - swam NCAA B standard qualifying times by winning individual races today. Barbosa won the 200 breaststroke in a provisional qualifying time of 1:59.39, Godec won the 100 butterfly in a provisional qualifying time of 48.15 and Copeland won the 50 free in provisional qualifying time of 20.18. Cal junior Jonas Tilly also swam an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 20.18 in the 50 free when he led off the winning-200 free relay.

The Cal A quartet of freshman Ryan Emanuel, Barbosa, Godec and sophomore Joe Whittington opened the meet by winning the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:30.56. After Meichtry's victory in the 1000 free, junior teammate Daniel Lysaught won the 200 free (1:39.31), freshman teammate David Russell won the 100 backstroke (49.19) and junior teammate Graham Lentz won the 100 breaststroke (55.79) before Pacific sophomore Krzysztof Zoldak won the first of two races, the 200 butterfly (1:51.11). Zoldak, Pacific's only winner on the day, later won the 400 individual medley (3:55.90). Cal senior Miguel Molina was right behind Zoldak in the latter event in a time of 3:56.05.

The Bears' other winners were sophomore Mark Eckert in the 200 back (1:47.16) and the Cal A squad (Tilly, Molina, sophomore Eric Dunipace and sophomore Louis Vayo) in the 200-free relay (1:23.18).

There was no diving at today's competition.

Cal hosts an Alumni Meet at 3 p.m. on Nov. 18 and returns to competitive action at the Texas Invitational, Dec. 1-3 in Austin, Texas.
