BERKELEY - The Cal field hockey team, off to a 9-4 start to the season and a perfect 4-0 in the NorPac Conference, has earned a No. 16 national ranking in the most recent NCAA poll.
The Bears are in the midst of one of the their best seasons in recent history, having outscored their opponents, 47-16. Senior Megan Sainsbury leads the attack with 13 goals and 15 assists for a school-record 41 points. Senior Sara Baron has contributed eight goals and three assists, while senior Catlin Braucht has three goals and nine assists.
The Bears have played four other teams in the poll this year: No. 2 Iowa, No. 7 Michigan, No. 13 Boston University and No. 15 Ohio University. Although Cal lost all four games, three were decided by one goal, and the Bears took Ohio to overtime on the road before falling, 2-1.

The Bears wrap up the regular season this Sunday when they host Stanford, also 4-0 in the NorPac, at 1 p.m. on Kleeberger Field. Cal then travels to Stanford for the league tournament Nov. 5-7.
