BERKELEY - California senior defender Tyson Wahl has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 18-24, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. This is Wahl's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor this season.
Wahl, from Newport Beach, Calif., scored two of the Bears' four goals in their 4-0 shutout at Oregon State on Friday. He scored off a corner kick, served by Andrew Jacobson, at 20:23 in the game for Cal's second goal of the afternoon. Wahl's second goal of the game came with six minutes left to play, sealing the Bears' victory. He scored on a direct free kick.
Wahl, who has started every game for Cal during his career, surpassed his previous total of three goals in his career with five goals this season. He did not score any goals in 2004.
No. 9 California (11-3-1, 4-3-0 in the Pac-10) will resume conference play the first weekend in November, when they host San Diego State on Friday, Nov. 4 and UCLA on Sunday, Nov. 6.
