Cal vs. USC Postgame Quotes
Jan. 4, 2008
LOS ANGELES -
Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
"You go on the road and you have to be happy with a win. I've said this before. The rankings go out the window when you go on the road. Everyone thinks we're a great team. We're a great team if we do the things we do day in and day out. We didn't do that today. USC is starting to find their rhythm and their way. I ripped my team at the end of the game because we had 25 turnovers. I felt like we were out there making excuses for ourselves. Our personality changed on the court - our demeanor and our intensity. I feel like we got outhustled at times. That was disappointing. Again, I'm happy to come out with a win. This is a game we better learn from and learn from quick."
Cal forward/center Ashley Walker
On the game in general
"It's great that we're coming out with a win, but we didn't play to the best of our abilities. We had 25 turnovers, and we didn't adjust to things we needed to adjust to. It's great that we won, but there are things we need to work on to get better at."
On the overall poor shooting of the team except for Walker and Hampton
"Usually our guards are shooting 50 percent or better from the three-point line. When you go on the road, it's hard to shoot that way. We're not a one-dimensional team. You can't say 'we're going to double the posts and hope the guards don't get off.' And, it's not that you can guard the guards and see what the posts can do. We work together well as a team."
Cal forward/center Devanei Hampton
On how her knee felt tonight
"It felt really good. I do a lot of extra running and conditioning every day to get back on the floor with them. I know they need me as much as I need them."
On Walker's and Hampton's performances tonight
"It's everybody. If the guards aren't shooting well, then we know we have to rebound. If we're not shooting well, they know they have to rebound. It's a team effort. Everything that I do complements the whole team. We play together. We play to win. We pulled this one out because we stuck together as one."
