EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Kristina Thorson pitched a no-hitter and the Golden Bears got home runs from senior Haley Woods and sophomore Julie Meyer as the No. 7/8 California softball team shut out host Oregon, 6-0, Sunday. Thorson (28-7) struck out 11 in the win, helping the Bears improve to 40-10 overall and 8-7 in Pac-10 play. Oregon falls to 21-10 and 3-10.
Woods got the Bears on the board in the first inning with a three-run homer, scoring junior Alex Sutton and senior Lindsay James. It was Woods' 13th homer of the season, which matches her 2005 season total.
Cal put up two more runs in the third, on an RBI single from Sutton and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Katie Vickers. Freshman Morgan Siegel scored on Sutton's single, and Sutton went home on Vickers' sac fly. The Bears rounded out their scoring in the fourth on a solo home run from Meyer, her seventh of the season.
Thorson recorded her second no-hitter of the season, Sunday, and Cal's third overall. Thorson no-hit UC Davis on March 29 in Berkeley. Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz threw a no-hitter against Mississippi Valley State on March 2 in Hawaii. With the win Sunday, Thorson matched her career-high in wins. In 2004, Thorson finished 28-4.
Cal travels to Arizona next weekend to take on Arizona and Arizona State.
