SANTA BARBARA - Senior center fielder Maiko Bristow had three hits, including her first career home run, to lead No. 20 California to a doubleheader sweep of UC Santa Barbara Saturday. Cal (15-4) won the first game, 9-1, and came back to take the second, 4-0.
In the opener, UCSB (8-8) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. But the Bears took control in the third inning with five runs. Bristow opened the frame with a home run to right center field. Cal then capped off the scoring with four runs in the fifth inning, keyed by Bristow's two-run double. Sophomore Nicole DiSalvio pitched the first four innings to improve her record to 5-2 on the year.
In the nightcap, Cal scored three times in the third inning on RBI hits by Pauline Dueas, Holly Yost and Katie May and added a fourth run in the top of the seventh inning on a UCSB error. Freshman Jocelyn Forest threw five innings and allowed just two hits for her fifth win of the year.
