Sixth-ranked Cal Leads Pacific Tiger Invitational After Day One

STOCKTON, Calif. - Sixth-ranked California won three out of seven events and leads the field with 364.5 points after the first day of the Pacific Tiger Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex on the campus of the University of the Pacific. Cal junior Jonas Tilly won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 20.76, junior teammate Graham Lentz won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 57.61 and the Cal A squad won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:35.14.

The Golden Bears are followed by second-place USC with 317.5 points, Denver is third with 174 and the host Tigers are fourth with 121. Stanford and UC Davis did not swim today but will compete tomorrow at the Pacific Tiger Invitational, which also has a women's competition.

Cal took second in three events: the 200-yard freestyle (sophomore Dominik Meichtry, 1:38.94), the 400 individual medley (sophomore Louis Vayo, 4:03.12) and the 50 free (sophomore Joe Whittington, 20.95). Tilly also took third in the 200 free (1:41.94), sophomore teammate Justin Pollard was third in the 400 IM (4:04.14) and the Cal A squad was third in the 400 free relay (3:13.57).

There is no diving competition at this meet.

Cal returns to action at the Pacific Tiger Invitational at noon on Saturday.
