BERKELEY - Devanei Hampton had her season-high in scoring and posted a double-double against USC, followed by a strong performance against UCLA punctuated by a win-sealing steal, to help the Bears record a road sweep of the LA schools for the first time since the 2000-01 season, earning Cal its first five-game winning streak since 2004-05 and making the junior center the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
Return to the starting lineup after missing nine games this season due to a knee injury, Hampton led the Bears against USC with season highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Against UCLA, Hampton played a season-high 33 minutes and tallied 16 points and eight rebounds in the overtime win. In OT against the Bruins, she evened the game at 70-70 with at layup at 2:19 on the clock, and with 41 seconds to go, Cal held a 71-70 lead following a free throw by Hampton. With 21 seconds remaining and Cal up only one, Hampton came up with a critical steal to help seal the victory.
The two weekend wins improved Cal to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, tying the Bears for first place in the Pac-10 with ASU.
