BERKELEY - After dropping their first meet of the 2013 season to the rival Stanford Cardinal, the Golden Bears head across the bay to face the Cardinal once more, as well as the Oklahoma Sooners and Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Stanford Open on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The Golden Bears competed in their first meet of the year last week, and 13 freshmen saw their first action as collegiate athletes.

"I think that it's going to be very helpful moving forward in that now they have a sense of what it's like and they know what to expect for the next one," said head coach Tim McNeill. "Even though they all knew the order and what was supposed to happen today, it was still chaotic in the freshmen's mind about needing to be ready at certain times. Now that the freshmen have actually gone through a meet, they'll be that much better off in the future."

Bears See Their First Action of 2013
The Bears stumbled out of the gate to begin the 2013 campaign by dropping their decision to then No. 5 Stanford on Jan. 13. Though the Bears won the floor exercise with a 72.650, they dropped the decisions on the other five apparatuses. Junior Kyle Zemeir and Kevin Wolting saw their first action as Golden Bears and competed in the all around competition, with Zemeir earning third place with an 80.100. Eight other California freshmen saw their first collegiate action. Senior Steven Lacombe performed his first rings routine of 2013 and didn't disappoint, posting a 14.950 to earn third on the event.
