Columbus, Ga. - No. 3 California lost its second game of the day, 3-0, to No. 12 Nebraska in a Silver Championship game at the NFCA Classic. Cal's unbeaten streak of 15 was snapped earlier in the day by No. 13 LSU, 6-1.
Kelly Anderson experienced her second straight rough outing. Anderson only made it through 1 1/3 innings before being pulled with three runs across for the Cornhuskers. An uncharacteristic three walks over the short period was an indicator that Anderson's control was lacking.
Kristina Thorson relieved Anderson for the second straight game and worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings. However, Cal could not get on the scoreboard against Nebraska's Peaches James.
James gave up only five hits and three walks, as Cal's offense was stymied for the second straight game. The Bears' best opportunities came in the first and seventh innings when they put runners on first and second. But both times they could not come up with the clutch hit to start a rally.
The Bears will look to bounce back tomorrow when they continue Silver Championship play against Princeton.
