BERKELEY, Calif. --The seventh-ranked California Golden Bears (10-2) was all business against the Arizona Sate Sun Devils (7-2) and notched an impressive 7-2 win today in a dual match at the Hellman Tennis Center on the Berkeley campus.

Amanda Augustus, sick with the flu, took a quick 4-0 lead en route to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Reka Cseresnyes in the No. one singles match. Anita Kurimay won her third consecutive singles match, breezing by Stephanie Lansdorp 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 3 slot, and improved her dual record to 8-2. Amy Jensen was challenged in the first set at No. 4 but quickly snuffed out any ASU upset hopes when she bore down to dismantle Alison Nash 7-5, 6-1.

The Sun Devils gave the Bears trouble at the Nos. 2 and 5 positions where Esther Knox fell to Karin Palme 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) and Stephanie Tibbits lost to Katy Propstra 6-2, 7-5, respectively.

The doubles got underway as Francesca La'O found herself in a three-set duel with Kerry Giardino at No. 6. La'O continues to earn her victories the hard way as she prevailed 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 6-4 to swing the momentum in favor of the Bears. It marked the sixth time she has gone to three sets in 12 dual matches this season and her record stands at 3-3 in such situations.

The Bears proved to be too much for the Sun Devils in doubles play and swept all three matches. At No. 1, Augustus and Jensen defeated Lansdorp and Propstra, 8-3, and improved their season record to 15-2. Kurimay and Knox notched a 8-2 win over Cseresnyes and Palme to extend their perfect season doubles record to 11-0. At No. 3, La'O and Lee edged Celena McCoury and Faye DeVera, 8-5.

The Bears return to action tomorrow, March 7 when they are scheduled to face No. 23 Arizona in a dual match at the Hellman Tennis Center. Match time is set for 12 Noon.
