BERKELEY - Former Cal long snapper Nick Sundberg has signed an NFL rookie free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers. Sundberg spent four seasons (2005-08) as the Golden Bears long snapper, taking over the position in his first game as a true freshman in 2005 and never relinquishing the job. He played in 50 of 52 possible contests and made three career tackles.
Sundberg is the fourth former Cal football player to sign an undrafted NFL rookie free agent contracts following the 2009 NFL Draft. DE Rulon Davis (Denver Broncos), LB Anthony Felder (San Diego Chargers) and FB Will Ta'ufo'ou (Chicago Bears) were announced by their respective teams on Monday.
Cal also had three former players chosen in the draft. C Alex Mack was selected in the first round by the Cleveland Browns with the 21st overall pick last Saturday, while LB Zack Follett (Detroit Lions) and TE Cameron Morrah (Seattle Seahawks) were both selected in the seventh round on Sunday.
