"Before dissecting what went right and what went wrong, I really asked the team to really buy into making it about Cal basketball, being one unit, laying it out there. That is what you have to do to beat a great team like Texas. I think we did that. There were just too many mistakes once we took a lead, we didn't get to push that lead. In the second half, they made some tough plays. Some of those were a credit to them and some of those, we had some breakdowns, but overall, it hurts. It is tough. We led for 39 minutes, but I hope that our players realize we can be an elite team if we just do a few things a little bit better."

"We fired them up in the locker room to come out here with a little bit of something to prove. And to just be one unit and have Layshia's shot be Eliza's if she is out of the game. And have Gray's offensive rebound be Talia's. That's what we need, that collective energy. They did that. They owned it."

"Another thing, Texas came out in a man, and we picked it apart a little bit. We played our game and they switched to zone. It took us awhile to react to that, then we obviously knocked down some shots and then we were effective against the zone. So, loved the energy and the way we came out. I thought we really, really defended their actions. They only had 24 first-half points. Thought we really dug in and made them take tough shots. In the second half, I think they ended up with 18 points off turnovers. I think only five of those were in the first half, so obviously, we let them get some easy looks in transition, particularly off turnovers in the second half."

"Everyone is disappointed. This is not how you want to lose a game. There were things we were happy with, but it is hard right now."

"It is a totally different style of play. Virginia is playing straight zone. They are committed to a bunch of different kinds of trapping zones. A 1-3-1, a 3-2, some extended stuff. I expect that our players are going to come out with great energy, there is no question about that. We have to help them with some of the looks they are looking for, but more than anything, we need to take care of the ball. Virginia is really, really limiting people's production. We are going to have to come out and attack a zone. We are going to have to come out and defend and really, really make life tough for them to be able to get some things in transition. More than anything, I know the talk is going to be about Cal playing Virginia and the players we have playing Coach Boyle, but I think this team is committed to being a great team. We are going to make it about that and about us vs. about any particular match-up."
