STANFORD, Calif. - No. 17 California placed third at the NCAA West Regional Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course and earned its second-straight bid to the NCAA Championship. The Golden Bears shot a final round of 294 and finished at 889, which was only six shots behind the co-winners, No. 15 Pepperdine and No. 19 UCLA.

The Bears and the Bruins were the only teams in the 21-team field to record three rounds under 300. Cal, which posted its best ever regional finish this year, heads to its second NCAA Championship in the program's seven-year history May 21-24, in Auburn, Wash.

Pepperdine led the three-day tournament from start to finish, but UCLA fired a tournament-best 288 in the final round to catch the Waves.

The top eight teams from each of the three regionals advance to the NCAA Championships. Seven of the eight teams advancing from the West are from the Pac-10, with the other five teams being Arizona (890), Stanford (901), Arizona State (904), Washington (904) and USC (908).

Junior Ria Quiazon paced the Bears Saturday with an even-par 72 and posted the highest overall Cal finish, tying for 10th at 221. Right behind her were Cal junior Vikki Laing and sophomore Claire Dury in a tie for 12th at 222. Bear sophomore Sarah Huarte extended her streak of top 25 performances, grabbing a share of 23rd at 225. Senior Anne Walker rebounded from a bad round Friday to contribue at 76 towards the team score Saturday.

Arizona's Lorena Ochoa posted a six-under 210 to win the individual crown by five strokes over Pepperdine's Katherine Hull and USC's Mikaela Parmlid.
