BERKELEY - BEARS GO ON THE ROAD TO BEGIN PAC-10 PLAY: Coming off its fourth tournament title in as many weeks, Cal will travel to Southern California this weekend to begin Pac-10 play. The Golden Bears face No. 9 UCLA (4-2) Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at Frank W. Marshall field in both teams first Pac-10 game of the season. Cal will wrap up its road trip Sunday, Oct. 2, when the Bears face San Diego State (6-0-1) at 2:30 p.m. at the SDSU Sports Deck.

BEARS SHUT OUT OPPONENTS AT STANFORD NIKE INVITATIONAL: The Bears shut out both of their opponents last weekend at the Stanford Nike Invitational, improving to 7-0-1 for the season. In Saturday's match, Cal defeated UAB, 3-1. Senior forward Pieter Berger put the Bears on the board when he found the open net and was assisted by senior forward Calen Carr. UAB answered to tie the score 1-1, but that proved to be no challenge for Carr who came back and scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal off an assist by junior midfielder Steve Purdy. Junior midfielders Andrew Jacobson and Eric Ebert ensured the 3-1 win over the Blazers, with Jacobson recording his first career goal and Ebert tallying his second assist for the season. In Sunday's game against Army, Cal routed the Black Knights, 5-0. Senior defender Tyson Wahl put the Bears ahead for good when he scored in the 13th minute. Also scoring for Cal were Carr (with an assist from midfielder Luke Sassano), Jacobson (assisted by Purdy), Purdy and capping Cal's scoring with his first career goal was junior forward Matt Holtrust.

BEARS RECORD FOURTH TOURNAMENT TITLE: The Bears claimed their fourth consecutive tournament crown in as many weeks last weekend, capturing the Stanford Nike Invitational. Cal got the 2005 season off to a strong start when they defeated No. 4 UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside to secure the UCSB adidas Classic title. The following weekends the Bears were victorious at home, winning both the adidas Cal Legacy Classic and defeating No. 7 Santa Clara for the Bay Area Classic. This is the first time in Cal history that the Bears have recorded four consecutive tournament victories.

LOOKING AT THE POLLS: Cal is ranked No. 3 in both the Soccer America and the NSCAA poll.

CARR SCORES AGAIN FOR BEARS: Carr came up big again for the Bears last weekend, scoring the game-winning goal in Cal's 3-1 victory over the UAB Blazers. Carr also assisted on Cal's first goal of the game (by Berger). Carr contributed one goal in Sunday's 5-0 defeat over Army, tallying his sixth goal of the season, surpassing his total of five from 2004. Carr now leads the team in goals (6), game-winning goals (4) and shots (37).

THREE BEARS SCORE FIRST CAREER GOALS: Three Cal players notched their first career goal in Cal's largest margin of victory since defeating Oregon State 5-0 (10/11/02). Posting their first career goals were Holtrust, Jacobson and Purdy.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:

UCLA: The No. 9 (Soccer America) Bruins, currently 4-2 overall, defeated UNLV, 3-0, last weekend at Frank W. Marshall Field.
