BERKELEY - Cal's men's and women's basketball teams will make their Haas Pavilion debuts at midnight Friday, Oct. 15 when the Golden Bears host Late Night with the Bears. Admission to the event is free.
Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the Cal women's volleyball team will kick things off with a match against Arizona State at 8 p.m. The Cal basketball activities will immediately follow the volleyball match.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a free commemorative t-shirt, while the first 10,000 attendees will get a free Cal basketball cup. Throughout the night, Cal fans will have the opportunity to participate in a number of contests, including a $10,000 hot shot contest and a rib-eating contest.
At midnight, both the men's and women's teams will take the court for introductions and brief scrimmages, and Cal's 1999 NIT championship banner will be raised.
Late Night with the Bears is making its return to campus to coincide with the opening of the new Walter A. Haas Jr. Pavilion. The event also capitalizes on the first time teams are allowed to begin practice for the 1999-2000 season - 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 16.
