BERKELEY - On Dec. 1, 2008, the California Golden Bears women's golf team went to Oxford Elementary school in Berkeley in December, putting on a clinic for the fourth graders. The entire team went to Oxford, demonstrating and instructing the students on all the elements of the game of golf. On mats set up all across the blacktop, the students received hands-on instruction in putting, some discussion about the short game, and each got a little help with their swings. The Bears also talked to the kids about what its like to play golf, the importance of going to school, how to balance school and playing sports, and all of the opportunities that come from pursuing and playing golf. The annual stop at Oxford was only mildly hampered by some light showers. Despite the weather, the students and the Bears had a great time working and playing a little golf together.
