LOS ANGELES - The Cal women's tennis team, without the assistance of Raquel Kops-Jones, defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions, 6-1. Kops-Jones missed her first action of the year due to an aggravated lower back injury. The win moves the Golden Bears' record to 11-3 on the year.
In Kops-Jones absence, Jieun Jacobs picked up her first career court No. 1 victory, defeating Carla Arguelles in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. It was victory No. 15 for Jacobs on the year and No. 101 in her career.
Freshman Sasha Podkolzina competed in her first singles action since early November, defeating Jennifer Baker, quickly, 6-2, 6-1. Jody Scheldt also made her return to the court, after sitting out three weeks with a shoulder injury. Unfortunately, she fell in threee sets to Serena Fermin, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
