Cal Women's Water Polo Tops UC Santa Barbara, 7-2

BERKELEY, CA - The No. 4 ranked University of California women's water polo team (14-4, 5-2 MPSF) defeated No. 8 ranked UC Santa Barbara (5-8, 0-3 MPSF), 7-2, Sunday at Spieker Aquatics Complex on the Cal campus.
The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by senior captain Erin Kelley and junior Heather Petri. UC Santa Barbara got within, 2-1, when Jenny Holladay scored with 53 seconds left in the first quarter. That was as close as the Gauchos would get to the Bears as Cal outscored UC Santa Barbara, 5-1, the rest of the match. The Gauchos finally got their second goal of the match with 3:57 left in the contest on a shot by Kelly Tiffany.
The leading scorer for the Bears was freshman Breena Fleener, with two goals. Besides Kelley and Petri's goals in the first period, Amy Buehler, Julie Arnold and Melanie vonHartitzsch also scored for Cal
The Bears will next travel to the Hawaiian Tournament, Mar. 26 in Honolulu, HI.
