BERKELEY - No. 19 Arizona State (2-2) defeated California (3-2) Sunday afternoon in a Pac-10 Conference match-up at the Recreational Sports Facility Field House, 195.025-191.525.
In the first rotation, Arizona State jumped out to a quick lead over Cal as the Sun Devils scored a 49.000 on the bars against the Bears' 48.125 on the vault. During the second rotation, Cal gained ground against ASU as freshmen Tara Capsuto and My-Lan Dodd helped narrow the margin to 97.4-96.875 after scoring 9.825 a piece on bars.
The third rotation saw ASU separate itself from the Bears as freshman Kari Muth scored a 9.875 during the floor exercise to lead the Sun Devils. ASU swept the meet in the final rotation with a 9.850 finish by senior Rhonda Robinette to take first on the beam.
The Bears, unfortunately saw another gymnast fall during a meet as sophomore Karissa Chock went down with an ankle injury in the final rotation. She is expected to miss about six weeks of action.
The Bears continue their conference schedule with a visit to Tucson to battle the Wildcats of the Arizona on Friday, February 8, at 7:30 p.m. (MT).
