Cal Takes Second at Stanford Open

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5 California men's gymnastics team finished in second place at the Stanford Open on Saturday evening at the Cardinal's Burnham Pavilion. The home team Stanford won the meet with a 348.400 while the Bears were in second with 339 points to place ahead of Nebraska (332.600) and Washington (251.200).
Donothan Bailey was second in the all-around, accumulating an 87.400 behind Stanford's Eddie Penev, who notched an 89.200. Bailey finished second on floor (15.400) and tied for second on rings (14.800).
As a team, the Bears finished second on three events - floor, pommel horse and parallel bars.
Jean Monteclaro paced the Cal squad on vault with a 14.500. Vault also saw both Jeffrey Langenstien and Bailey receive 14.400s.
This week's meet will close out the unofficial first half of the season for the Bears. The Bears have three weeks off from team competition, but select individuals will compete at the Winter Cup Challenge on Feb. 2 and 4. The Winter Cup Challenge serves as the qualifying meet for the U.S. senior national team.
