STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 23-ranked California men's tennis doubles team of junior Nick Andrews and sophomore Christoffer Konigsfeldt dropped a narrow 6-4, 7-5 decision to Florida's 17th-ranked duo of Sekou Bangoura Jr. and Alexander Lacroix in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships at the Taube Family Tennis Center on Thur., May 26.

The Golden Bears conclude the 2010-11 season with an 18-10 mark with 11 wins in duals. Andrews and Konigsfeldt went 7-2 in tournament matches and captured the 2010 USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championship doubles crown.

Florida opened up the match as it broke Konigsfeldt's serve to take the first game, and held on Lacroix's serve to go up, 2-0, in the first set. Andrews served aggressively in the third game to take control and put the Bears in the books with a win, but Bangoura Jr. returned the favor to put the Gators on top, 3-1. Cal forced enough Florida errors as Konigsfeldt went back to serve to get a game back, and trail, 3-2.

Facing Lacroix's serve, again, the Bears battled back from down, 30-love, to force deuce against the Gators, before Konigsfeldt sent a forehand shot down the line to earn Cal the break for a three-all tie. Florida went up, 4-3, in the set, and took command on a rally at the net to earn its fifth game for a 5-3 lead. The Bears responded to take the next game, and trail, 5-4, but Lacroix held his serve, once more, to seal the first set for the Gators, 6-4.

The Bears took the first game of the second set on Andrews' serves, but the Gators bit back and tied things up, one-all. Cal went up, 2-1, when the Gators ended a rally by putting a ball into the net, and took a 3-1 lead when the duo broke Lacroix's serve. Florida continued to battle and broke the Bear serve to get their second game, and tied the set at three-all after a tough battle through five deuce points.

In the swing game, Florida put the pressure on Konigsfeldt's serves and came up with a win to go up, 4-3, in the set, but the Bears stood fast their ground to earn a four-all tie when they broke Bangoura Jr. Andrews served up a win for Cal in the ninth game to put the Bears up, 5-4, but the Gators evened things, once more. Florida reclaimed the lead when it broke Konigsfeldt's serve, and secured the win as Bangoura Jr. poached a shot to score the final point in a 6-4, 7-5 win.

Bangoura Jr. and Lacroix will advance to face LSU's No. 8-ranked team of Sebastian Carlsson and Neal Skupski in the round of 16. The Tiger tandem defeated Texas Tech's 20th-ranked duo of Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, in the opening round.
