Cal vs. Kansas Quotes
Dec. 21, 2007
BERKELEY, Calif. -
Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
"I thought it was a great game for us. It was a team win. We got everybody in. Our guards really stepped up. They were really going to be focused on Ashley (Walker). Rama (N'diaye) was out with foul trouble, Dev's (Hampton) out and Ashley is not playing her best game, and somehow they find a way for someone to step up."
On the long break
"I was really nervous coming into the game. They're a Big 12 team. We've been off for 10 or 12 days. Are we rusty? Does it take us a little to get into it? Dev's out. There were a lot of factors out there. We talked about do we want to be a good team or do we want to be a great team? Do we want to be looked at as 8-3, and Cal's good, but they're doing the same thing. Or, 9-2 and having a great game against Rutgers and making a statement without one of our best players. How do you want to enter the Pac-10? I thought they really made a statement tonight."
On whether Alexis Gray-Lawson brought a little something extra tonight
"It was so funny. I thought that was her best game. I felt like tonight, 'Wow, she's back.' She got to the basket, she had her mid range and her three was working for her. She looked very comfortable out there."
Cal guard Alexis Gray-Lawson
On playing against Kansas
"I was kind of excited for this game. I've been preparing mentally for this game for a long time. These two (Natasha Vital and Lauren Greif) and Ashley (Walker) have helped me with that. They've been saying, 'If you get hurt in the second half (as she did last year against Kansas), you might as well do well in the first.' I came in mentally prepared and got great passes from my guard group."
Cal guard Lauren Greif
On coming off the break and getting some momentum
"There have been a lot of practices. It's been good to get some games back in. We wanted to have a great end to the non-conference. We did well and wanted to have some momentum going into Pac-10s. That was huge for us to come out and put them away."
Cal guard Natasha Vital
On playing a complete game
"This was one of our best team wins. We played 40 minutes. We came out and tried to put two halves together. I think we did that today."
