BERKELEY - DeSean Jackson, All-America receiver and return man from the University of California, announced on Tuesday that he will forego his senior year with the Golden Bears and enter the NFL Draft. Via teleconference, the junior read a brief statement relating to his decision process and then took questions from the media.

Jackson/Tedford Quotes From Teleconference

In Jackson's three seasons, the speedster ranks third all-time at Cal in receiving yards (2,423), third in receiving touchdowns (22) and sixth in total receptions (162). He has 28 touchdowns in 36 career games and 52 career plays of 20 or more yards (23.0 percent of his 226 touches). ESPN's Mel Kiper rates him as the No. 1 junior receiver in the nation and he earned first-team All-America recognition as an all-purpose player by the American Football Coaches Association. During the 2007 season, he tallied a career-best 65 receptions for 762 yards and six touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2006, he had 59 catches for 1,060 yards and nine scores.

He closed the 2007 season with 81 yards on five catches, including a 40-yard TD reception on a difficult twisting catch, in Cal's Armed Forces Bowl victory over Air Force. His most memorable games of the season included the opener against Tennessee, when he tallied 143 yards on six touches, including a dazzling 77-yard punt return touchdown, and an 11-catch, 161-yard, two-TD performance in a road victory over Oregon. For his career, Jackson has six punt return touchdowns, the most in Cal and Pac-10 history.

The Golden Bears posted their sixth straight winning season in 2007, capping the year with a come-from-behind 42-36 triumph over Air Force in the Bell Helicopters Armed Forces Bowl. The bowl victory was the fourth for Tedford - no other Cal coach has won more than two. It is the first time in program history that Cal has advanced to five straight bowl games and the first time in over 50 years that the Bears have posted six straight winning seasons.
