(BERKELEY) - One day after traveling to San Francisco's AT&T Park for a helmets only practice, the 2011 Cal football team returned to Witter Rugby Field in Berkeley on Wednesday for an intense practice in full pads that included extensive 11-on-11 team sessions.
"There was good in everything that we did," head coach Jeff Tedford said. "We have a lot of things to learn from, obviously, a lot of guys did some good things. Everybody played a little bit today to try to get their feet wet."
The second and third-teamers saw most of the reps on Thursday, with most of the first-teamers playing for just one series.
"We're trying to really get a look at the younger guys," Tedford said.
Some of the highlights of Wednesday's workout included ...
Zach Maynard completing 9-of-13 passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 45 yards rushing and another pair of scores on the ground on four carries
C.J. Anderson rushing for 101 yards on 10 carries, including a 44-yard touchdown romp and a one-yard TD plunge
Dasarte Yarnway running for 80 yards on eight carries, including one that covered 50 yards
A 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Joel Willis
A 70-yard punt return for a touchdown by Mike Manuel
A 25-yard catch by Will Kapp on the first play of the first drive
The receiving days posted by Coleman Edmond (4-31, TD) and Terrence Montgomery (3-35)
Kyle Boehm completing all three of his pass attempts for 48 yards
Giorgio Tavecchio (2-2 FG, 3-3 PAT) and Vince D'Amato (2-2 FG, 1-1 PAT) both connecting on all four of their kicks, with Tavecchio making field goals from 47 and 19 yards, and D'Amato hitting from 33 and 39 yards
An interception and 16-yard return by Kameron Jackson
A team-high six tackles from Michael Coley
