BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. - Behind outstanding pitching from sophomore right-hander Dixon Anderson, the Cal baseball team produced its fourth shutout of the year with a 13-0 victory over host Cal State Bakersfield Sunday, Feb. 28 during the final day of the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament at Hardt Field in Bakersfield.

The Golden Bears (6-1) - which also had a 19-hit attack with three hits apiece from junior designated hitter Austin Booker, sophomore catcher Chadd Krist, sophomore left fielder Danny Oh and freshman third baseman Tony Renda - ended up capturing the tournament after defeating Central Michigan, 9-4, on Friday; and Saint Mary's, 5-4, Saturday.

Anderson improved his record to 2-0 after throwing 7.0 innings with five hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. In two appearances this season, he has not given up an earned run in 14.0 innings and has tallied 15 strikeouts and only three walks. Senior right-hander Daniel Wolford (1.0 inning, one strikeout) and junior right-hander Brian Diemer (1.0 inning, one walk, one strikeout) threw the last two innings of the contest.

At the plate, Cal controlled the game with a six-run third inning and a four-run fifth inning. Besides the three-hit games from Booker, Krist, Oh and Renda, junior first baseman Mark Canha was 2-for-3 with a team-high three RBI. Sophomore shortstop Marcus Semien joined Krist and Oh in hitting doubles for the Bears, while freshman center fielder Darrel Matthews had a pair of RBI.

Krist and Oh are having stellar seasons for Cal. Krist is batting .577 (15-for-26) with four doubles, a triple, three home runs and 10 RBI. Oh is hitting .452 (14-for-31) with three doubles and a team-high 11 RBI. The Bears currently own a .400 team batting average and a 1.80 team ERA. The Cal pitching staff had shut out Southern Utah; 14-0, 22-0 and 10-0 Feb. 19-21; to open the 2010 season.

Cal next prepares for home contests March 5-7 versus SEC foe Arkansas. Game times are 1:30 p.m. March 5 and 1 p.m. March 6 and March 7 at Evans Diamond.
