BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal set a new Pac-10 and Cal women's basketball home attendance record today with the crowd of 10,525. The old Cal record of 5,027 was set against Stanford Jan. 6, 2007. Today's crowd broke the previous record of 9,749 fans for a game between two Pac-10 opponents, established Feb. 10, 2007, when UCLA played at USC's Galen Center.
The attendance record for a game involving a Pac-10 team is 16,782, set in the Tennessee at Arizona State contest at Bank One Ballpark Dec. 27, 2000.
Cal has also set a single-season school women's basketball home attendance record. Through 14 home dates, the Bears averaged 2,363 fans. That mark surpassed the previous record of 1,656, set in 2005-06 and in 2006-07.
Ashley Walker now has a Pac-10-leading 12 double-doubles with her 17 pointsd and 14 rebounds today. Walker has 32 double-doubles for her career.
Walker has moved into seventh all-time in Cal history with 1,382 points, surpassing Kesha Martin (1,368 from 1989-93). Walker is ninth in school history in rebounding with 765.
Devanei Hampton has registered double-doubles in four straight games and in seven games this season. Hampton led all scorers with 19 points today and added 10 boards. She has 24 double-doubles for her career.
Hampton is 10th all-time in career scoring at Cal with 1,211 points, putting her only 10 points shy of tying Jackie Lear for ninth place (1,221, 1993-95). She has 621 career boards.
Stanford entered the game leading the Pac-10 in scoring at 75.9 ppg, and the Bears held the Cardinal to 60 points. Cal leads the Pac-10 in scoring defense at 53.0 ppg after today's game, which is on pace to break Arizona State's Pac-10 record of 54.7 ppg (2004-05).
