Women's Golf Travels To Stanford Invitational

CAL TRAVELS TO STANFORD INVITATIONAL
Coming off its victory at the Oregon State Invitational, the Cal women's golf team travels across the Bay to the Stanford/Pepsi Invitational, Fri.-Sun., Oct. 19-21. The 54-hole tournament takes place at the par 72 Stanford Golf Course, which plays at 6,154 yards. Teams play 18 holes each day Friday through Sunday. Tee times for the first two rounds begin at 8 a.m. from the first and 10th tees. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start kicks off the final round Sunday. A practice round takes place Thursday.
STANFORD INVITATIONAL FIELD The 17-team field features: Arizona State, Cal, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Stanford, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, Washington and Washington State.

Cal shot a school record 54-hole total of 882 and won a tie breaker to repeat as Oregon State Invitational champions. Cal began the day in second place, seven strokes behind Arizona. The Golden Bears shot a 298, and the Wildcats carded a 305 to finish with the same final score as the Bears. The low fifth player's score in the final round determined the winner. The Bears fifth score was Anna Temple's 79, while the Wildcats' fourth and fifth scores were each 82s. Arizona's Lorena Ochoa won the individual title by nine strokes with a 206 (72-67-67). Cal senior Anne Walker and sophomore Sarah Huarte tied for second with Stanford's Kim Kouwabunpat with a 215. Both athletes broke junior Vikki Laing's previous school record of 216, set at last year's conference meet.
SIX CAL RECORDS FALL AT OSU
A total of six Cal records were broken at the Oregon State Invitational. The Bears set team records for 18 (286), 36 (584) and 54 (882) holes. On the individual front, Ria Quiazon set the Cal mark for 18 holes with a 68 in the opening round. Huarte established a new program benchmark for 36 holes (142) and Huarte and Walker broke the 54-hole record with scores of 215.
