California head coach Jeff Tedford
"It felt like Kevin [Riley] was really sharp. He put us in position to make plays. It was a team effort out there. Guys played both sides of the ball. We played together, and that was the main part. We played hard for each other.
On Substitutions and Rotations
"We played different players at different times. We wanted to keep guys fresh. It was important to keep our guys fresh. We subbed at the defensive line and also at the wide receiver position.
On Earning a Victory in Southern California
"This game was not personal at all. It was a great feat for this year's team - the opportunity to play together between the lines. It was not personal for me. The main goal was to play together and we had each other's back.
On Running Back Shane Vereen
"Shane [Vereen] was huge today. He made play after play. He left it on the field. He played great."
UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel
"Congratulations to Cal. They played terrific. That was the first time that our defense looked like they were being exposed. We allowed 35 points in the first half, and that is not something that I anticipated. These are difficult times. And in difficult times, the key is for everybody to know that there is a plan. The plan will begin in earnest tomorrow. In the first quarter of the season we were 3-0, and in the second quarter of the season we went 0-3. Now we have to take inventory as a coaching staff. We have to question what we are coaching and teaching, and we have to make sure that this can be executed by those players on the field. We have to find a way to beat the Wildcats next week. They are a very talented team. But when we play well and make the plays that we are capable of making, we can succeed. I don't know what else to say, other than that we have to continue to grow. We cannot jump out of the ship in the midst of some adversity. All the things that are worth something have some adversity associated with it. I guarantee you that I can handle it. I understand the frustration of all the people that support UCLA football, especially given the 3-0 start and so on and so forth. But we are going to keep working at it. There are no excuses. We are just going to keep working at it.
On Bowl Eligibility
"In the preseason you are always asked what your preseason goals are. I said that I wanted this team to get to the postseason. All I care about is beating Arizona right now. And if our game plan is executed well, we can sing the fight song again."
On UCLA's Improved Second-Half Defense
"We talked to the defense at halftime. We had a long conversation at halftime about what kind of tough guys they are. We told them to go out there and have an inspired second half. For the most part, we did."
On Over-Confidence Following the 3-0 Start
"I think these guys have had a blue-collar attitude about this season all year long. They didn't believe themselves to be the best players in the country. They do believe in themselves to be capable of doing great things. We are going to recruit all the great players around - players that want to have a great academic experience and football experience. You have to figure out how to execute together. We can build this. We are going to get this done, and that's all I know how. We're going to do it with the right attitude because it's a great place to work and it's a great place to go to school."
