STOCKTON, Calif. - The Cal men's water polo team extended its 2007 season winning streak to five, handily defeating Pacific, 21-7. The Bears outscored the Tigers in every period except the second when UOP scored four goals to Cal's three. Thirteen different players scored in the fifth-straight win for the Bears.

"This was a pretty good effort - we struggled during the second quarter with seven turnovers but we got back on track in the second half," Cal head coach Kirk Everist said. "Our 6on5 was a little off, we were rushing our passes a bit. We will need to improve that for tomorrow."

Pacific scored the first goal of the game just 30 seconds into the first period on a breakaway set up by its goalie but Cal recovered quickly and scored six goals of its own. The Bears shut out the Tiger offense for the remainder of the first period to send the Tigers into the second period down by five.

After two scoreless minutes to open the second period, Golden Bear Thomas Pearson scored his third goal of the game to put the Golden Bears up by six with 5:59 left to play in the half. The teams went head-to-head, each scoring three in the second quarter to bring the Tigers within five, 9-4, heading into the half.

The Bears held the Tigers scoreless for the entirety of the third period and scored five goals of their own. Pacific tacked on two goals in the fourth period but the Bear offense was overpowering, netting seven goals to extend its lead and win the game, 21-7.

Mark Sheredy played the majority of time in goal, notching 12 saves while Jacob McIntosh had two.

With the loss the Tigers fell to 2-3 on the season, while the Golden Bears advanced to a perfect 5-0 on the year. Cal hosts UC Davis tomorrow at home with the first sprint slated for 12 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
