BERKELEY, Calif. - The California women's tennis team improved to a perfect 5-0 record today, winning all of their sets en route to a 7-0 win over the visiting San Diego Toreros today at Hellman Tennis Complex. The Bears will play No. 3 Stanford (6-1) tomorrow at Hellman, continuing their four-match homestand.
It began with doubles, as Cal jumped out to at least a 3-0 lead on every court. The Toreros never got close, with the Bears only losing a total of 5 out of 29 games, on their way to claiming the doubles point. Christina Fusano and Jieun Jacobs were particularly impressive on court no. 3, dropping USD's team of Sepei and Kazarien 8-0.
It continued with singles, as the Bears showed off their depth once again. At no. 4, Jody Scheldt dropped her opponent 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Carla Arguelles, seeing her first singles action of the season, completely overmatched her court five counterpart, breezing to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Nicole Havlicek completed the lower-court dominance, leaving Kazarian with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat,
The Bears take on the Cardinal tomorrow (Saturday) at noon.
