In fact, the Bears kicked of the season in grand style, winning their third Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational title in the last four years. Last year, Cal finished in the Top 5 in 6-of-12 tournaments, including winning three tournament titles and posting a pair of fourth place finishes at the Pac-10 Championships and NCAA West Regional.

HAN CONTINUES HOT PLAY: Through the season's first three tournaments, junior Han Lee has without a doubt, been the Bears hottest golfer. Lee opened the season with a career-best third place finish at the Falcon Invitational, firing a 5-under 211. He then came right back at the Pacific Invitational to card another 211. Last week, Lee fired a three round total of 219 and was the Bears top finisher at the Husky Invitational in 14th. YI BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS: After missing the entire spring campaign with a wrist injury that ultimately required surgery, Dong Yi has returned to the Cal lineup and appears to have picked up right where he left off. Yi shot a three round total of 3-under 213 at the Falcon Invitational followed by a 1-over total of 217 at the Pacific Invitational. Last week, Yi was again finished in the Top 25 at the Husky Invitational. To date, he posses the team's second lowest stroke average at 72.4, over a full stroke lower than his career collegiate average of 73.8.

CAL SNARES TOP 25 RANKING: With everyone back from last year's squad that finished in the Top 15 at the NCAA Golf Championships, the Cal men's golf team opened the 1998-99 campaign ranked No. 22 in the preseason MasterCard College Golf Rankings. Defending champs, UNLV, with 345 votes nailed down the top spot with Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Oklahoma State in slots 2-5, respectively.
